Summer Activities
Discover Banff in all its incredible peaks and valleys. Full of crystalline lakes, river rapids, and mountainous trails, summer around here is action-packed with a little bit of something for everyone.

In 1886, following the discovery of the Cave and Basin, a log bathhouse and the Grand View Villa and a small log bathhouse were built on the site of what is now the Banff Upper Hot Springs. Just a few years later, in 1895, Francis Beattie opened a small six-room hotel on the site where The Rimrock Banff now stands. After a fire destroyed the building, the Hot Springs Hotel was built in its place, alongside a government bathhouse featuring plunge pools, bathtubs, and a large soaking pool.
Ownership changed over the years, with Dr. Bevan Ashton acquiring the Hot Springs Hotel in 1911, promoting the area as a place of healing with his book, The Banff Cure, A Cure by Water. When Phillip Ashton inherited the hotel, it was renamed the Upper Hot Springs Hotel.
In 1959, John Pawluk took over the leasehold and began construction on what would become The Rimrock Hotel, later renamed The Rimrock Inn. This new hotel featured 60 guestrooms, a restaurant, a cocktail lounge, a rooftop deck, and meeting spaces, making it a sought-after retreat above Banff.
By 1988, new ownership transformed the property into the hotel we know today—The Rimrock Banff, with 333 guestrooms, 24 suites, and the most breathtaking views in Banff.
For over a century, The Rimrock Banff has stood as a place of relaxation, adventure, and luxury, continuing its legacy high above the town of Banff.
